Driven by the goal of ‘Clean , Green and sustainable livelihood alternatives for the marginalized target groups , SKC’s NRM Project fosters active involvement of women in eco-friendly, income Generating activities through various skill development initiatives. Nursery Raising has become one such significant option practiced in the area invoked by the project. The NRM Project with proper hands-on training has equipped the target women groups to employ effective techniques for developing a good-quality nursery. Teaching these indigenous women the skill of nursery management, which increases the chances of learning the better practices and passing it on to the next generation. The skills they learn not only add value to their ‘knowledge bank’ in agriculture but also increase the scope for income generation, as the community nursery offers means for economic empowerment of marginalized women farmers. Total seven such nurseries were raised, with almost 10,000 commercial saplings at 5 blocks in the districts of West Midnapur, Jhargram and Bankura by engaging 180 women, who are exploring the opportunity for livelihood through nursery simultaneously in harmony with nature.
